Cookie Policy
Last updated: [18/08/2026]
This policy explains how darcywintermusic.com (the “Site”) uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can control them. It sits alongside our our Privacy Policy at darcywintermusic.com/privacy-policy, which explains what we do with personal data more generally.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They’re widely used to make sites work, to remember your choices, and to gather information about how a site is used. Similar technologies, such as pixels, tags, and local storage, do comparable things, and where we refer to “cookies” below we mean all of them.
Cookies may be first party (set by this Site) or third party (set by another organisation whose content or service is used on this Site, such as an embedded video player).
2. The legal position
Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR, we can place cookies that are strictly necessary for the Site to work without asking you first. For everything else, analytics, functionality, embedded media and marketing, we need your consent before those cookies are placed.
We ask for that consent through the banner that appears when you first visit the Site.
3. Categories of cookies we use
Strictly necessary
These are required for the Site to function and can’t be switched off. They’re set by our website platform, Squarespace, and do things like keep the Site secure, remember your cookie preferences, and manage server load. They don’t require your consent.
Examples include Squarespace’s security and session cookies, and the cookie that records your cookie choices so you’re not asked again on every page.
Analytics and performance
These help us understand how people find and use the Site, which pages are visited, how long people stay, and where visitors come from. We use this to improve the Site. They’re only set if you accept them.
We use Squarespace Analytics, the first-party analytics built into our website platform. It counts visits, distinguishes returning visitors from new ones, and shows us which pages and traffic sources people arrive through. Our platform also keeps a short-term activity log which records IP addresses and browsing activity, retained for seven days and used to understand traffic sources and spot unusual activity.
We do not use Google Analytics, and we do not use advertising or retargeting pixels on this Site.
Functional
These remember choices you make and enable features beyond basic browsing, for example remembering that you’ve dismissed a notice, or supporting a form on the Site.
Embedded content
Pages on the Site include content embedded from other platforms, for example music players, videos, and social feeds from Spotify, Bandcamp, YouTube, SoundCloud, Komi and Instagram. These platforms may set their own cookies when their content loads, and they may use them to build a profile of your interests or to link your activity to an account you hold with them.
We don’t control these cookies. Their use is governed by those platforms’ own cookie and privacy policies, and we’d encourage you to read them if you’re concerned:

Instagram / Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/policies/cookies/
4. How to manage your choices
On this Site. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies using the banner shown on your first visit. Until you accept them, non-essential cookies aren’t placed at all. You can change your decision at any time using the Cookie Preferences button displayed on the Site.
In your browser. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Instructions for the main browsers:
Safari: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/safari/sfri11471/mac
Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/enhanced-tracking-protection-firefox-desktop
Blocking all cookies, including strictly necessary ones, will affect how the Site works — some pages and embedded players may not display properly.
You can also find general guidance on cookies from the Information Commissioner’s Office at https://ico.org.uk.
5. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Site changes or as we add or remove tools. The version published here is the current one.
